[Disaster Report] Earthquake hit Solomon Islands, and triggered tsunami on 6 Feburary.


Powerful earthquake struck near the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific on the 6th of Feburary.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Magnitude of the earthquake was 8.0 and the seismic epicenter was located near the Santa Cruz Islands, a depth of 17.8 miles.

The earthquake brought tsunami.
Local officials reported the tsunami was about 1 ~ 1.5 meters in height.
The tsunami hit the western side of Santa Cruz Island, and it damaged around 70 ~ 80 homes and properties.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre reported that a tsunami of about 1 meter was mesured in Lata wharf in the Solomons.

At least 5 people died in this earthquake.


In the western Solomon Islands, a magnitude 8.1 quake hit and more than 50 people were killed in April 2007.
