[Prompt Report] Typhoon Haiyan hits Philippines on November 8th, 2013

Main Affected Area : Tacloban city, Leyte Island in Philippines
Date : November 8th, 2013

Damage (as at November 10th)
Fatalities : more than 1200 people (estimated by the Philippine Red Cross)


Most damages are caused by high tide water, which maximum tide level is estimated to reach about 5m in Leyte, occurred in the morning on November 8th.
Estimated number of fatalities is more than 1000 people only in Leyte, evacuees is reached to 800,000 people, and four million affected in total according to the announcement of governmental task force.

Because of the cut-off of most roads and all communications except for satellite phones in Leyte, it is impossible to determine the extent of the damage.
The whole-scale of the damage caused by Haiyan in the Philippines is still emerging.
